Job Description of CDL Trainee Driver:
Polish your driving skills and acquire expertise that will enable you to operate a truck-trailer combination with ease. Your responsibilities will not be limited to driving only, as you'll also be expected to carry out non-driving functions such as using a forklift and managing the dock area.
Responsibilities of CDL Trainee Driver:
- Always employ the correct motor-powered and hand-operated equipment, like a power jack, handcart, and forklift, to handle the cargo.
- Before beginning any work, it is important to make sure that safety inspections are conducted without fail in order to ensure smooth operations
- The process of unloading or connecting trailers and converter dollies requires special equipment like fifth wheel couplings and landing gear
- Cross-check the freight description, weight, and hazardous materials listed on the paperwork against the current electronic or manual system to confirm accuracy
- The safety of the goods being transported is essential, and one way to achieve this is to properly secure freight using tools and supplies such as straps, ropes, and pallets
- Restoring and fixing spoiled freight as needed
- Ensuring that all required paperwork is accurately completed is a sign of professionalism, and reflects well on the organization as a whole
- Provide guidance and assistance to clients regarding the handling of their freight and necessary paperwork
- As a corporate entity, we are obligated to follow all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures in a consistent and equitable manner
- Conduct additional responsibilities as deemed necessary
Qualification of CDL Trainee Driver:
- Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator Basic written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to lift/carry hand freight of varying weights several times a week, to lift dock plates weighing approximately 100 pounds, and to open trailer doors requiring approximately 75 pounds of lift force, up to several times per day or more
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck
- Ability to follow instructions and complete required training
- Ability to work independently and/or as a team member
- Before beginning work classification, one must have a class A commercial driver's license (CDL) or a commercial learning permit (CLP).
- must meet employment requirements with an appropriate Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
- Must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier (FMC) regulations
